Those who tend to be on the road a lot or frequently see that “low battery” warning on their mobile device can understand the inconvenience of a dead battery.

In today’s world, our smartphones have become an extension of our lives, allowing us to connect with friends, check the local news, or even see if stormy weather is incoming.

Although electricity is all around us, it can be difficult to find time to wait for our phones to charge. My Galaxy S3 can take a few hours to recharge from a dead battery and phones with larger batteries can experience even longer times.

Lithium-Ion batteries, the ones found in Laptops and Smartphones, tend to dislike when they are subject to quick charges. Users who charge their device(s) from 20% to 30% then remove the charger will experience a faster decay in battery life. Likewise, anyone who uses a fast charger that provides a higher amperage then the normal charger will also see a reduction in the life span of their battery.

So the question arises, how does one maintain a full battery throughout the day, yet still stay mobile, and even protect their phone’s battery? It’s simple, you find a mobile battery pack; preferably one manufactured by a well-known and high quality company.

Welcome to my RAVPower Deluxe RP-PB19 Series review. Throughout my review I will be discussing the following: the unboxing, design, and my overall thoughts. I would like to thank RAVPower for providing me with this unit.

The Unboxing

Over the course of the last few years, I have become accustomed to RAVPower’s products. When I received the Deluxe battery back in the mail, I noticed a very similar packaging aspect that comes with RAVPower units.

The outer sleeve expresses some advertising material like a large vector photo followed by the unit’s model number and battery size. On the back are the unit’s specifications followed by the company’s information.

Slip off the sleeve to reveal the tan packaging box containing the black design of the Deluxe battery pack. Underneath are some accessories including a mesh carrying case, two USB charging cables, a Samsung 30pin adapter, a Mini USB adapter, followed by the standard documentation.

While I was unboxing the Deluxe battery pack I was pleased to see that the USB charging cables offer a flat cable. The flat vinyl material cables offer a tangle free operation and are easily stored in the mesh carrying case. Likewise, the cables come in two different sizes, one measuring at 7.8in and the other at 23.6in; personally I stuck with the shorter cable.

Lastly, the addition of the Samsung and Mini USB charging adapters are a great inclusion to the device. Users who have older Samsung devices or have a mobile phone with a Mini USB rather than Micro USB, will still be able to charge their device, provided that the device can handle 2.1A or 2.4A.

The Design

Those that have been reading my reviews for a while or those who are RAVPower fans may recall a similar design from the RAVPower KnightRider. In my review of the KnightRider, I applauded RAVPower for their stylish design, so I was happy to see the design carry over.

The Deluxe battery pack is coated in a matte black finish that is divided by a silver band. Additionally, the finish provides a light scratch resistance and is nearly finger print resistant. I noticed while using the unit that oils from my hand would momentarily transfer to the unit, but fade away quickly.

Constructed out of a high grade plastic, the sleek shell of the Deluxe pack doesn’t bend or twist even under pressure. Inside the shell, there are the Samsung manufactured rechargeable battery cells that hold an enormous capacity of 15,000mAh. The batteries, however, do add a hefty weight to the unit at 11.3oz.

On the face of the unit, you will find the RAVPower logo, a glossy function button, followed by a blue LED battery indicator bar. The button provides three uses, one being to wake the device, another to check the current capacity and lastly to enable the bright LED flashlight. The bottom contains some general specifications and nothing more.

Sizing in at a length of 5 inches, width of 3.2 inches, and height of 0.86 inches, the Deluxe battery pack easily fits into a pocket, suitcase, or backpack. It’s sized well to be carried around if your device dies while you’re away from home. As I have said with other RAVPower units, this unit is perfect for the traveling business man.

Finally, located on the silver band are the two USB output ports, followed by the input for recharging the unit and a bright LED flashlight. The USB ports are rated to charge at 2.1A or 2.4A, however, the Deluxe series comes with RAVPower’s new iSmart technology. By detecting the correct charging needs for your device, users can plug in any brand or model and have a fully charged device without overwhelming the device.

My Final Thoughts

In the end, the RAVPower Deluxe is one of my favorite RAVPower battery packs. The outstanding capacity of 15,000mAh is more than enough to charge your device over and over again without recharging the pack. Likewise, the unit is reasonably priced at $36.99 which falls into that sweet spot for mobile battery packs. If you’re a user who is on the go or tends to have frequent low battery warnings, I would highly recommend the RAVPower Deluxe RP-PB19 series.
