Today I’ll be reviewing my personal headphones, the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro. Throughout the review I will be sharing my own experiences of the headphones along with the quality, design, features and specifications and of course, my personal opinions.

    Unboxing the headphones

Looking at the Custom Pro’s box, you will find an informational exterior shell. Whereas many headphone manufactures can go overboard on the packaging, Beyerdynamic takes a sleek approach by giving you some technical data on the inside cover, along with a window to see what your $250 ( Beyerdynamic.com) just bought you.

Please note that many other online retailers carry this product at a much lower price point.

When it comes to packaging materials, well there weren’t any. Some people may ask why this would matter, but would you ship your expensive items in just a box?

So if Beyerdynamic’s time, money and research didn’t go into box design or packaging you must receive many accessories, Yes? Well that isn’t the case here; inside the box you’ll find the headphones, a breakaway 3.5mm headphone cable, and a 1/4-inch adapter. Personally, I would have also loved to have seen a carrying case, even if it was flexible.

At this point you must be thinking, that that isn’t a lot for a $200+ price range, but besides a carrying case, there isn’t much else that I would expect to see while unboxing headphones. The good news is that Beryerdyanmic’s time, money and research went to the most important item within the box, the Custom One Pro.

    Quality and Design

The quality of these German manufactured headphones is out of this world and easily surpasses name-droppers like Dr. Dre’s Beats or Ludacris’ Soul headphones.

The band holding the headphones together is made from a strong metal frame, whereas the speaker housing is made from plastic to avoid the headphones from becoming too heavy. Around the metal band is a soft, yet very comfortable, foam padding which is secured by Velcro that is easily removable to be either washed or replaced by a custom padding that you can order from Beyerdynamic.com. The band also allows owners to adjust the height for individual comfort, but the headphones can be uncomfortable to wear around your neck.

When looking at the Custom Pro you immediately notice its large, black ear-cups, that too can be replaced with custom colors. The circular ear-cups have a large amount of padding to increase comfort levels, but does not maintain its shape, unlike memory foam. The headphone ear-cups also offer a closed design to give outstanding noise cancelation. One negative that I found was that the headphones do not fold, making it difficult to use for travelers. Not that I take my headphones many places, but packaging them in say a suitcase, can be difficult.

You can see now why Beyerdynamic calls these headphones Custom One Pro, as the ability to add your own personalization is outstanding. The customization doesn’t stop at just the ear-cups or head band; owners can also buy or add their own custom plates that appear on the sides of the ear-cups.

    Features and Specifications

The Custom One Pros support 50mm, 16-ohm dynamic drivers with an extreme frequency of 18Hz up to 35,000Hz. You may not be able to hear all of the frequencies offered by the Custom Ones, but Beyerdynamic thought it would be necessary regardless.

We all have that one heavy bass song within our playlists and enjoy every minute of the track, but some headphones just don’t have the power to produce the heavy bass playback. With the Custom One Pros there is no need to worry, you will enjoy ever beat.

Not quite an equalizer, the Custom One Pros have a sliding port found on each ear-cup that can allow for a 5 decibel increase/decrease all with the slide of the port. Personally, I keep the headphones on max bass as I found it to be most enjoyable for watching YouTube videos, playing PC games and listening to Rock music.

The breakaway cable is a gold-plated mini stereo 3.5mm jack and is approximately five feet long. I enjoy the fact that the cable is removable; if the cable is destroyed the whole unit won’t need to be replaced. It should be noted that the cable does lock into the headphone socket to prevent it from falling out.

The headphones have a two year warranty, and a full detailed list of specifications can be found at this PDF.

    Conclusion

Reviewing headphones can become difficult as the experience will vary for each owner. Unlike a graphics card, headphones have one major feature and that is the speakers themselves. I truly enjoyed my experience with the Custom One Pros. You’ll end up searching for days to find a $200 pair of headphones that can come close to the Custom One Pros. It may be a big output of money at once, but the gain is truly worth it. Just remember to Rock on!
