Today Samsung debuted their brand new 85-inch, 4K resolution, Smart TV at New York. The new TV comes with all of the new 21st century goodies that are the main reasons for such a high cost.

Today Samsung spoke about their new 2013 lineup on the New York show. They started out strong, eventually bringing out the huge 85-inch TV. To create some excitement Samsung brought in two spokespersons, Eli Manning and Kate Upton.

Ever since the first flat screen TV, prices have dropped drastically. Customers are also buying up bigger flat screen sizes to place around their houses. With a rapidly growing market everybody is jumping aboard the new 4K or UHD resolution TVs. In fact, LG just recently released their 65-inch, 4K, Smart TV for $12,000.

During CES this year Samsung showed off this 85-inch 4K TV. It’s a 4,000 pixel (hence the 4k) wide display which is four times the amount of pixels found in a 1080p HDTV display. With such a high pixel density this gives an outstanding and crisp display. The TV also comes with Samsung’s S9 voice commanded system that can navigate through content, display channels, and move though the Smart Hub. It also has a 3.2 channel, 120-watt speaker system built right into the frame. That is a huge jump from the average 10 and 20 watt speaker systems found in most HDTVs.

The Smart Hub, which will be coming to more TVs, Samsung Blu-ray players, home theater systems, and more in 2013, features a five panel menu that displays guides, videos, apps, social and personal; basically it’s a super, super-sized smartphone.

What I gathered from Samsung’s event is that this new TV is a statement. At a $40,000 price tag they’re not trying to sell very many but to simply state that they have the technology and the ability to create such a masterpiece.
