As a new year dawns, so does new technology. Seagate, a world leader in hard drive manufacturing, has just announced what they have in store for us at the 2014 CES stage, a new type of hard drive. Designed with a silver-plated hard drive in a sphere shape, Seagate’s new drive may change the way future hard drives will be built. Handcrafted in France, the LaCie Sphere hard drive will be an external drive constructed out of steel, and have a starting capacity of 1TB (up to 4TB) with a USB 3.0 connector. Seagate also plans to create Thunderbolt editions…

Over the past week I have been reviewing a Wicked Lasers EVO Laser rated at a minimum of 50mWs. Provided by Wicked Lasers themselves, the EVO laser is the world’s first customizable laser that you can actually control via your Android device, iOS device or PC. Throughout my review I will be going over the unboxing, build quality, features/specifications and finally my overall thoughts. Figure 1 – The EVO with the included wrist strap. The Unboxing Sent to me was a review unit that came with additional add-ons and was shipped in a standard shipping envelope. Included was the EVO…

On a CNet Top 5 “Outdated technology” episode, earlier this year, the broadcaster stated that on his top 5 list of soon-to-be-outdated technology, the home printer will become a thing of the past. Currently a staple for any home office, the home printer is a product that I don’t see as a thing of the past, but an industry that is still advancing. Controlled by very few manufacturers, printers, scanners and fax machines haven’t changed much over the years. One of the greatest improvements though is the fact that they have become all-in-one machines, freeing up some desk space. Being…

With USB connectors being the standard on almost every PC, flash drive, mobile device, etc., the group behind the USB connector stated on Wednesday that the newest USB Type-C connector is scheduled for a mid-2014 release. The Type-C specification is built from the previous USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 technology so that thinner and sleeker USB products can be designed. As the newest USB 3.0 speeds are already reaching 5Gbit/s a second, I would expect the Type-C connector to go beyond that and reach speeds similar to Intel’s Thunderbolt connector at double USB 3.0 speeds. USB Promoter Group chairman, Brad…

The time has come when Google is rumored to be creating an Android platform television set-top box. With competitors such as Microsoft, Sony, Samsung and Apple, Google has a tough road ahead. Just recently released by Google, the Chromecast is a $35 USB streaming device that takes your Android device and streams its content to a big screen TV. So far, so good; The Chromecast has been an outstanding hit for Google with sales still continuing. However, it seems that Google is looking to advance to the next level and create a fully functional Android Set-Top Box. Rumored to handle…

I have seen it time and time again where people are spending $9.99, $99.99, or $499.99 on what salespeople call “high quality” HDMI cables. Remember who you’re buying from, salespeople, people who get a profit from a sale that they just gave you. Or companies like Monster who trick their customers into thinking their cables are better than others. It’s plain and simple: all HDMI cables are the same. They’re all made in the same country in the same factory. When looking at specifications from an HDMI cable we see basically the same output between an eBay HDMI cable costing…

Some may call it a super smartphone, others a mini tablet, but with its colorful 5.7 inch screen, the latest offering from Samsung, the Galaxy Note 3, falls squarely within the phablet concept. It wasn’t long ago when people were carrying flip phones with a screen size of perhaps 3 inches across. Over the past few weeks I have been reviewing and using the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 that was generously provided by Samsung. Having one of the largest displays I have ever seen on a smart phone, the Note 3 offers up a world of new and innovative features…

If I were to ask you which two major technology companies were back at the courts, what would be your answer? If you guessed Samsung and Apple, you would be right. This upcoming Tuesday will begin a follow up trail of the Apple vs. Samsung case. Apple is demanding an extra $380 million for damages that Samsung allegedly caused. On the contrary, Samsung states that they only owe a remaining $52 million for using the Apple trademark of “pinch-to-zoom” on Samsung products 13 years of age or older. Unlike the $1 billion lawsuit between the companies, this trail will be…

I have done reviews in the past of the RAVPower KnightRider and HooToo HT-TM01 , and while they both made good external battery packs for long term travelers, each one lacked a key element; the ease of portability. Over the past few weeks, I have been reviewing the newest edition to RAVPower’s lineup, the RAVPower Luster power bank (Model number: RP-PB08). Throughout the review I will be talking about unboxing it, its build quality and design, features and specifications, and finally, my overall thoughts. A special thank you goes out to RAVPower for providing this product. Figure 1 – The…

Following the release of Apple’s brand new iPhone 5s with the world’s first 64bit processor for smartphones, Samsung is following their competitor’s example by creating their own 64bit CPU. Defined to work as a “2-step approach” Samsung has stated that their 64bit CPU’s design will be based on the ARM architecture. As Apple gathered an audience with the release of a 64bit processor, many reviewers stated that even with such a powerful processor, the iPhone could not even come close to the processor’s full potential. As Samsung did not state to the press which devices a 64bit processor is being…
