Just a few months ago the technology giant Microsoft released their brand new gaming console, the Xbox One. Replacing the eight year old and outdated previous generation, the Xbox 360. An odd name indeed. However, gamers all around the world were happy to see a new redesigned console, controller and Kinect sensor. When Microsoft did their first unveil they didn’t have much to say; in fact they said they would speak more about the Xbox One at E3.
E3 was a few days ago and Microsoft held their Press Conference just like they do every year, announcing new game titles, Windows, and any other related technology news. When Xbox Chief Don Mattrick came on stage to speak about the Xbox One a huge backlash sprang from all gamers.
Microsoft stated that the Xbox One would not be backwards compatible, would need to connect to the internet every 24 hours, and will have many limitations on used games. In addition, Mattrick also said that the Kinect sensor will always be running; a camera always spying on you, people thought.
With millions of people stating that Microsoft’s competitor, Sony, “won” the console battle the Xbox team took a step back.
Yesterday Mattrick came out to announce that the Xbox One will not require an internet connection to play games and it will not impose any limitations on used or shared games. “It will work just as it does today on the Xbox 360. After a one-time system set-up with the new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again “ said Mattrick.
With the Xbox One still being an extra $100 over the PlayStation 4 many speculate whether the Xbox is still worth the money, believing that Microsoft will bring these rules back. Personally I have always been a fan of the Xbox franchise but I also don’t like being told how to use the device I own.
The PS4 and Xbox One were way overdue and it’s about time we saw a new installment of console gaming. Expect to see many new game titles and outstanding graphics for the console world in the near future.
