My house is full of smart home automated tech that would make someone from ten years ago be stunned at what I can do from just a phone in my pocket.

As great as the plethora of home tech can be, it does come with countless headaches, issues, and IT troubleshooting. Sometimes basic and simple really can be better.

With new homes coming with a front primary door and a rear entry door, it can be helpful to have a doorbell installed to a door that isn’t the front door and spending tons of money for a wired video doorbell doesn’t make sense for something that can be solved by a basic and simple solution.

Welcome to my review of the Avantek Wireless Doorbell.

Design

Inside the little Avantek product box are three components. First is the battery-operated wireless button enclosed in an all-black plastic shell with a pleasant green bell icon to indicate its purpose. Second is the plugged indoor speaker that connects directly to a wall outlet. This too is an all-black plastic shell with a green bell icon to show what it does. Lastly, the box includes a basic screw mounting kit for the wireless button.

The rather small wireless doorbell button is easily mountable by either double sided tape, the method I prefer, or by removing the back of the plastic shell and screwing it into a wood or metal surface. Do note that you will need to make your own screw holes through the plastic.

On the face is a large centered button in a glossy finish. Personally, I do not like glossy finishes as they tend to show dust, dirt, and fingerprints and the Avantek product here is no exception. You may find yourself cleaning the button if it’s exposed to the weather.

Speaking of weather, do your best to ensure the button is well covered. When mounted, the button is fairly well sealed, but heavy rainfall could seep inside the unit.

When the button is pressed, a very bright green LED is illuminated to indicate a press. The internal antenna is large for a doorbell and should easily reach the inside speaker regardless of its location indoors.

The speaker mirrors the same practical design aspects as the button even down to the green LED that illuminates when being configured.

When plugged directly into a wall socket, the speaker has three left-mounted buttons. The first adjusts volume output while the other two cycle through multiple different doorbell sounds. More on this later.

For a product that is meant to be basic and simple, the design tends to match Avantek’s goal and price point for this product. While I am not a fan of a green outlined bell logo (I would have preferred white), it can help make the button more noticeable in the dark.

Functionality

Avantek made a lot of effort to include every possible sound for virtually anyone who purchases this product.

You may expect the doorbell speaker to have a traditional doorbell sound output and you would be correct. By default, the speaker comes out of the box with a basic “ding-dong” noise.

However, for those daring, you can scroll through a large list of alternative sounds. From Christmas songs, to farm animal noises, to objects I don’t even know how to describe in words.

It’s comical for some and others a little “long” for a doorbell noise. Nonetheless, I’m positive you can find a noise that would fit your personality.

In addition, the speaker can get quite loud and can be heard throughout a reasonable sized home.

The range of the wireless doorbell is hundreds of feet and easily penetrated the walls and objects inside my house. Any practical mounting location will suffice for this product.

While the speaker is hardwired, the wireless doorbell button runs on a standard CR2032 button cell battery. With the power requirements of this button, it should last a very long time, but will eventually need to be replaced depending on usage.

In the end, I could see the Avantek wireless doorbell being used for its intended door purposes or for use within the house. Perhaps to notify children that dinner is ready or a fun little toy for a middle-aged child.

The large (52) list of sounds astonishes me and while I thought it was funny and weird at first, it’s nice that there are options for everyone.

My Final Thoughts

For only $19, the Avantek wireless doorbell is a great basic and simple object that can bring some modern aspects to your home.

Outdoor rated, multiple other color options, and plenty of sound characteristics make for a great buy and one I can easily recommend. I never found a complaint to share about the unit.
