There are plenty of times when a homeowner, home mechanic, or general handy-man needs to source a welder.

Whether it’s to fix a broken metal plate or to help join two materials together, welding at home is often a rarity and some resort to asking their Facebook friends if anyone knows a professional welder.

With the vase marketplace of Amazon, owning your own personal welder is now something easily accessible and something that anyone could quickly learn at home.

Today, Vevor is showcasing their new MIG Welder with 200 amps. This big blue box is capable of three different welding types and can help bond together all sorts of metals. With a straightforward design and a quick learning handle, you too can expand your handiness.

Welcome to my overview of the Vevor MIG Welder 200A.

    Design

Vevor’s big blue aluminum welding box is a sturdy welder that can travel around to virtually any location with an electrical source.

Right on the top of the unit is a thick plastic carrying handle that does wonders for moving the welder from location to location. In addition, the aluminum shell is protected by big rubber bottom mounted feet and top mounted rubber corner protectors.

While the build quality is acceptable for general home use, professional and construction use may find the unit isn’t up for long-term sustainability.

Its rather basic design allows for a simplistic look and user interface to better engage new welders like myself.

Right on the front are your push button controls along side a few rotating dials. Even with welding gloves on, an operator can easily adjust the welding type, gas, voltage, power, and wire speed. Both the buttons and tubing on the Vevor welder are, again, well suited for general home usage.

Around the back is your optional gas inlet, master power switch, and the standard-power cable lead. Unfortunately, the power cable is loose with no way of securing it when storing the welder or while its in transit. I would have preferred some way to wrap the cable when not in use.

The right panel has two plastic clips that enclose the wire wheel and housing. With the provided wire in place, the wire can be feed down the welding handle and tube and adjusted with the previously mentioned knob.

Inside the Vevor box comes with nearly everything you need to get started welding right away.

Vevor includes tubing, wire, power adapters, welding clamps, wire brush, and even a pair of welding glasses. Do note that I highly recommend only welding once proper welding equipment has been acquired. More on this in the next section.

The welding handle is a nice, ergonomic plastic handle with a smooth red trigger. It takes some getting used to, but quick learning handy-men will certainly get a good grip.

For a at-home welder, Vevor’s offering is an easy-to-use design with a box full of nearly everything you need to get started right away. Minus the loose power cable, Vevor really nailed the design of this one once again.

After reviewing their Sewer Camera and Heat Press, it’s clear they know how to take industrial equipment and adapt it for general home use design.

    Functionality

I highly recommend purchasing a nice quality welding mask and welding gloves before getting started. Newcomers, like myself, will have a learning curve and sparking, popping heated metals can and will hurt you, your skin, and possibly vision. Never operate a welder without proper eyewear.

First and foremost, Vevor does not include any welding gloves and the included safety glasses are sub-par.

Vevor’s 200A welder can work with MIG, TIG, and MMA with the compatibility for alloy, mild steel, weld steel, stainless teel, cooper, and cast iron.

Depending on the welding type and whether gas is involved, the lengthy Vevor welding cables are well built and stand up for the challenge at hand. In addition, each welding handle has an adequate length to allow the welder to be placed away from the project area.

Vevor’s included operating manual can help get you started, but I’d advise watching some YouTube videos first. Learn how different metals react, temperatures to use, and the best practices.

In general use, you can often repair cracked metal, bond a bolt to a plate, or even repair missing chucks in a metal rod or tube to then sand down for a finished look.

Personally, I used the welder on an old lawnmower deck that had cracked open. A simple weld allowed the deck to be repaired rather than replaced. It also allowed for added metal bars to be placed for additional strength.

In addition, welding a nut to a metal tool allows for better leverage on extracting difficult to break bolts in odd places. The welding possibilities with Vevor’s welder are endless.

Lastly, Vevor has internal welding protections for safety such as overheat protection, overload protection, and over current protection.

    My Final Thoughts

Vevor has become a new favor brand of mine on Amazon. They’re offering tons of commercial grade equipment that can be quickly and easily used and configured right your own home.

It’s easy to use, easy to get started, and could last years under general usage. The only downside being that you become your friend’s new handy man with so many professional grade tools.

Vevor’s MIG welder is priced at $375 on Amazon and I find that to be a decent price for this unit. It includes all of the welding handles, comes with wire, and allows you to get started nearly right away. Backed by a good brand and good people, I’m fan of this product.
