There are some gamers out there that insist that playing a game on a console gives them a better experience over a PC. As there is a large debate over which is better, one thing is for certain, the best gaming equipment is still required to enjoy the game.

One of the most popular gaming consoles on the market, the Xbox One, offers a large variety of games, multimedia playback, and activities to do. Unfortunately, the headset provided with the Xbox One is poor in terms of build quality and audio playback.

Another disappointment of the stock Xbox One headset is that previous Xbox 360 compatible headsets are not compatible with the Xbox One. Microsoft requires that users use their new controller adapter, which is an additional $24.99.

As an Xbox One owner, I searched the web for a new headset, preferably one from a reputable manufacturer, and one that offers more than what the stock headset has to offer.

With a previous review covering the Turtle Beach X42 gaming headset for the Xbox 360, I ventured onto the Turtle Beach website to discover their new Sentinel Task Force lineup for the Xbox One, offering customization, dual speakers, and even the required Xbox headset adapter.

Just like a PC gamer, console gamers have their own favorite game, a game that they play over and over again without ever getting tired of it. Furthermore, these people tend to personalize their setup with items from that game. With Activision’s Call of Duty being one of the most sold games on consoles, the amount of Call of Duty items available is extraordinary.

Welcome to my review of the Turtle Beach Call of Duty Advanced Warfare Ear Force Sentinel Task Force headset. Throughout this review, the following subjects will be covered: the design, functionality, and the conclusion. I would like to thank Turtle Beach for providing me with this headset for review.

    The Design

In the typical Turtle Beach fashion, the design of the headset supports a low cost build material, yet still provides a stylish and sturdy look to them.

The headset itself is constructed out of a high grade plastic material and is painted in an all matte black finished. The headband supports a glossy finish with stylish Call of Duty logos that offer that superb gamer look and feel.

When placed on your head, the adjustment system uses a sliding mechanism that holds its positioning even after repetitive use. At first, you may experience unsatisfying feel as it takes a little getting used to the headset. However, the headset uses oval shaped ear cups, a personal favorite, with perforated pleather. The padding of the headset does a decent job at allowing your ears to breath, but at the same time providing you with reasonable comfort for long hours of gameplay. Furthermore, the ear cups can lie against your chest when they are not in use.

For those who seek customization, Turtle Beach offers users the opportunity to pay an additional $13 for custom Call of Duty ear cup plates. You can also choose between Star Wars, Marvel, or Borderlands logos. Although I find this to be a hefty cost for two plastic ear plates, some may find it interesting to make the headset their very own.

Finally, Turtle Beach includes the Xbox One adapter that is required for the headset to function with the Xbox One. With controls for adjusting game and chat volumes, as well as overall volume it provides a better interface over the Microsoft branded unit.

    Functionality

Since the headset is wired to your Xbox One controller, your controller may require a system update before the headset can function. By following the update document in the packaging, the device should begin to function and you should be able to hear sound after a restart of the controller.

All of the Xbox sounds are sent to your headset, so gaming at night becomes a lot more sociable if others are sleeping. Sound in the headset is loud for the user, yet quiet for those sitting in the room only a few feet away. Furthermore, your own voice is quietly transmitted through the speakers.

Also supported on the headset is a detachable microphone that offers a decent sound. During my testing, not once did the person on the other end mishear me or listen to static background noise. The microphone is fully adjustable to match the contours of your face.

The dual speakers are a large improvement over the standard Xbox One headset’s single speaker. By using massive 50mm speakers, this gaming headset provides deep bass along with crisp sound. For a product designed for a console, it shares its technology with headsets from the PC gaming world.

Sounds were clear, music was enjoyable to listen to, people’s voices were understandable and there were no complaints when it came to the headset’s ability to provide an enjoyable gaming experience.

    Conclusion

All in all, I am left with the same mindset I was in when I reviewed the X42s for the Xbox 360; the mindset of a happy gamer. Being a limited edition Call of Duty headset, Turtle Beach puts a higher price of $99 for the unit. I am quite happy on how the headset turned out and these will be my main headset for gaming on my Xbox One and hopefully will become your main headset as well.
