As we leave our desktops and laptops behind, more and more of us are moving to mobile devices. By having mobile devices like smartphones, tablets, and smart watches, we find ourselves looking for yet another wall charger to power them.

Fortunately, almost every mobile device now uses the universal USB charging cable, so wouldn’t it be convenient and easy to have just one device that charges them all? Designed to have a 30W/6A charging output the new RAVPower BOLT charging station is a four USB port charging hub that can simultaneously charge your tablet(s), smartphone(s), as well a large majority of other devices you need charge. Provided by RAVPower, my review of the BOLT will cover the following: the unboxing/design, features and specifications and my final thoughts.

Figure 1 – What comes in the box.

    The Unboxing and Design

Shipped in a small compact box, the BOLT comes with only a short user manual and long, detachable wall charger cable to power the BOLT. Once you’ve pulled everything out of the box, setup is as simple as plugging the unit into the wall outlet and finding a place to store it.

The design of the unit is acceptable coming in at a size of 3.6 x 3.5 x 1.2in and being built out of a somewhat black glossy plastic (The BOLT is also available in white). On the base of the BOLT you’ll find four rubber feet that easily hold the BOLT securely in place. On the top you’ll find the indicators telling users which ports have what output. A small design annoyance I did encounter is with the power cable and how it plugs in from the back. With the power cable coming straight out of the back of the BOLT, it makes the unit a tad more difficult to hide against a wall since the cable is quite large.

    Features and Specifications

Shown in figure 2 above, you can see how the BOLT is designed to handle four devices at once. The unit has four USB outlets: two of them are 5V 1A chargers for things such as iPhones, Android smartphones and Windows smartphones, whilst the other two ports are 5V 2.1A chargers for devices that need more power like iPads, Android tablets and Windows tablets.

Anybody can now say goodbye to using multiple adapters and wall outlets. Other than the blue LED indicator showing the BOLT’s charging status and the fact that four devices can be charged at once; you won’t find any more features.

    Here is the unit’s specifications:

    – Model: RP-UC07
    – Type: 4 Port USB Wall Charger
    – Input: 100-240V
    – Output: DC 5V 6A
    – Weight: 6.1 ounces

    My Overall Experience

Just like my review of RAVPower’s KnightRider and Luster, my usage with the BOLT went quite well. As I mentioned above, I only had one small annoyance with the charging cable but that shouldn’t affect your decision on whether or not to buy this product. Having just one easy base station for all of my mobile devices it makes things that much easier. For just $19.99 there isn’t much more you could ask for, although I would have liked to have seen the included charging adapters that came with the KnightRider.

All four should be 2.1A, why would anyone buy anything that cannot source 2A on all sockets ?
