You always see those “top 10 most recommended applications” articles around the web and at times some may be useful. I’ll be going through my personal selection of applications I have installed across my three devices!
Below I’ll be going through applications I personally have installed on my Samsung Galaxy S3 with a description of why I use each one. My devices are: a Samsung Galaxy SIII running Android 4.1, my Asus VivoTab Smart Tablet running Windows 8, and my Dell Inspiron laptop running Windows 7.
The applications that I install on my phone are a little different from the other two devices. Unlike my laptop or tablet my phone is always with me no matter where I go. My phone also doesn’t have a massive amount of storage so I am always careful on what’s installed. All of the following applications are available for download on any Android Jelly Bean device.
Adobe Products
Just like my PC I’ve installed Adobe Reader and Flash Player. As I rarely need to read PDFs from my phone Adobe Reader is an excellent program for reading the PDF over the stock viewer, and while Adobe Flash Player is no longer available for download on the Play Store, it’s great at trying to view Flash content on the web such as YouTube. However, most phones come with their own version of Flash Player.
APP Lock
Ever wanted to lock a specific application, such as your pictures? APP Lock will allow you to do just that. The software allows you to add a number lock before allowing selected applications to be opened. This is great if you want to add a parent lock to the browser or lock your photos.
Demotivation and Funny Pictures
I love looking at these two apps every day as users can upload their own funny pictures they have found around the web. You can view thousands of different pictures, all with different meanings and comments.
ESET Mobile Security
Viruses on Android are pretty rare and most users can get away without using an anti-virus as long as they are safe about what is installed. I personally like having the protection on my device and ESET is one of the best mobile security programs that I have found; however, that protection does come at a cost.
Just like the rest of the world I too have a Facebook account. The Facebook application is very user-friendly and gives you a clean view to access your News Feed or account settings. Basically it gives access to everything the main website has to offer.
Fox News
Fox News is my news station and the application allows quick access to different news categories, articles and major events. What I find useful is that the application will notify you when a major news event is happening.
Google Apps
Since Android is made and owned by Google expect to see a lot of pre-installed Google applications on any Android device. Not all are pre-installed though; I’ve personally installed Google Drive, Google Earth, and Google Search.
Drive gives me quick and easy access to all of my cloud stored files that can be shared across all of my devices. Earth is a mini-sized Google Earth desktop application that allows you to zoom in anywhere on the Earth. Last but not least is the outstanding Google Search which gives you access to Google Now. An alternative for the personal assistance such as Siri, Google Now is much, much more accurate and quicker than any other personal assistance on any smartphone.
Kingsoft Office
To remove the sting of not having Microsoft Office on Android I use a free Office software suite that allows the creation of Word, PowerPoint and Excel documents on the go. A user-friendly UI and the fact that you can easily create documents on the fly is outstanding. All of the documents are also compatible with Microsoft Office.
Games
I never really game on my phone as it does draw battery power and I rarely have the time if I am out. They also take a lot of storage. However I do have a few games that I like and enjoy. Here is the list: Basketball Shoot, Flight Control, Heavy Gunner 3D, Minecraft PE, Offroad Legends, Sentinel 3, Shadowgun, and Unblock Me.
SwiftKey
SwiftKey is most likely my favorite app of them all. SwiftKey is a 3rd party keyboard application that replaces the stock keyboard of any phone. It uses their “swift technology” that allows you to type complete sentences without ever lifting your finger. It is extremely useful and makes typing on a mobile phone that much easier.
This is the complete list of the applications I would recommend for any Android user. Hopefully there were some that can help you expand your Android experience. Stay tuned for my Windows 7 & 8 recommended programs!
